| Accurate modeling requires the solution of Maxwell's
equations in geometrically complex structures composed of multiple layers
of materials on large scales measured in terms of the desired optical
wavelengths. Existing tools are not capable of carrying out such calculations
on a timescale suitable for engineering design. As a result, they rely
on significant simplifications, and the resulting simulations provide
qualitative prototypes of optical components rather than accurate models.
A description of our approach is under construction. |
